SK80 Mitsubishi ESKA 2 mm PMMA End-Glow Fiber Optic Cable for Decorative Lighting

The SK80 is a Mitsubishi 2 mm PMMA end-glow plastic optical fiber (POF) that carries light along a transparent polymer core, used as the light-distribution strand in star ceiling / starry sky.

Manufactured for production use rather than as a one-off sample, the SK80 is built to a stable fiber specification so orders can be repeated with consistent dimensions and performance.

Key Characteristics

  • Minimum bend radius: ≥10*Fiber Diameter
  • Refractive index figures: 1.49
  • Operating temperature range: -50°C to +70°C
  • IP68 ingress protection for damp or wash-down environments
  • Standard length: 350m/1.68kg
  • Certified to EMC, Reach, FCC, ISO9001
  • Available in continuous spool lengths for large ceilings, curtains and textiles
  • Safe around water and in public spaces — no electrical current at the light-emitting point

Typical Applications

The SK80 is commonly used for star ceilings and starry-sky panels in hotels, KTV rooms, home theaters and bedrooms. The result is a reliable, repeatable build that tolerates the routing, vibration and repeated handling typical of production installations.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Does it emit UV or heat? A: Virtually no UV or IR reaches the end points, which helps protect sensitive fabrics and artwork and makes the fiber comfortable to touch.
Q: How is it cut and installed? A: The POF is cut with a sharp fiber cutter and bundled into the illuminator chuck; no fusion splicing or electrical work is needed at the lit end.
Q: Is the fiber safe near water or in a ceiling? A: Yes. The fiber itself carries no electricity and stays cool at the emitting end, so it is suitable for wet areas and occupied spaces when paired with a remotely located light source.
Q: What core diameter should I choose? A: Smaller diameters (0.25–0.75 mm) give fine, dense star points, while 1.0–3.0 mm strands produce brighter points over longer runs. Match the diameter to your illuminator and desired star density.
