1.00mm PMMA End-Glow Fiber Optic Cable 1500m Roll IP68 Illuminating Plastic Fiber

This is a 1.00 mm end-glow plastic optical fiber (POF) supplied on a continuous 1500 m roll, built with a transparent PMMA core and a fluorinated-polymer cladding. Through total internal reflection it carries LED light along the fiber and releases it only at the far end, so it is the standard light-carrying element for star ceilings, illuminated signage, car starlight headliners and wet or outdoor displays. The bare fiber itself carries no electricity and is rated for IP68 environments when used with the correct jacket, making it safe for swimming-pool, bathroom and exterior lighting effects.

Key Characteristics

  • 1.00 mm PMMA core, fluorinated-polymer cladding, supplied as a continuous 1500 m roll (2.16 kg per roll at 1.00 mm).
  • End-glow (end-emitting) construction: light travels the full length and appears as crisp pinpoints at the fiber tips, with almost no side light.
  • Numerical aperture 0.5 and 60° maximum acceptance angle for easy coupling to standard LED illuminators.
  • Attenuation ≤350 dB/km at 650 nm; operating temperature range -20 °C to +70 °C.
  • Minimum bend radius of 10× the fiber diameter (10 mm for 1.00 mm), allowing tight routing for ceilings and panels.
  • No UV or IR in the output, virtually no heat at the lit end, and no electrical current in the fiber itself.
  • Diameter range from 0.25 mm to 3.0 mm is available; REACH- and ISO9001-registered production.

Typical Applications

The 1.00 mm end-glow fiber is the workhorse diameter for decorative starry-sky ceilings in hotels, KTV rooms, bars and home theaters, where thousands of fiber tips are pushed through a dark panel to reproduce a star field. It is equally used for fiber curtains, falling-water effects, large-screen fiber displays and luminous furniture, as well as automotive starlight headliners. Because the light source is separated from the fiber and the conductor is non-conductive and IP68-suitable, it is also a safe choice for swimming-pool lighting, saunas and other humid or water-adjacent installations; basic signal-transmission use is also supported.

Structure and Specifications

The fiber combines a PMMA core (refractive index 1.491) with a fluorinated-polymer cladding (refractive index 1.363), giving the numerical aperture of 0.5 that keeps light guided even around moderate curves. The reference test data below document the measured optical and geometric values for the 1.00 mm grade.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: What is the difference between end-glow and side-glow fiber? A: End-glow fiber emits light from the far tip for sharp star-like points, whereas side-glow (side-emitting) fiber leaks light along its whole length for continuous lines. This 1.00 mm product is an end-glow fiber.
Q: How much fiber is on a roll? A: The 1.00 mm grade is supplied as 1500 m per roll, weighing about 2.16 kg; other diameters (0.25–3.0 mm) give different roll lengths.
Q: Can it be used outdoors or near water? A: Yes. The bare fiber carries no electricity and, with the appropriate jacket, is rated for IP68, so it is suitable for pools, bathrooms and exterior lighting; the LED illuminator should stay in a dry location.
Q: What light source do I need? A: Any standard LED fiber illuminator with an output that matches the 1.00 mm fiber bundle and a 0.5 numerical aperture; RGBW engines with remote or APP control are commonly used for color-changing star ceilings.
